PostSubject: T-Rex Footprint   12/11/2010, 8:42 pm

The Texas T-Rex is looking to have a bigger footprint in 2011, so here's our newest project about to be underway.

We've got a limit of 10.5", on the tire size in our class. Currently, we run a 7.5" wide wheel, and we're trying to widen it to about 10-11". So, we are either using the 1/4"pipe, or the 1/8 " strap to form a band...to section and widen the wheel. Any suggestions ????

Our plan right now, is to split the wheel, leaving the center section and inner section together...leaving the offest the same. Then, using either the pipe or band, we will bolt on the center section (to the axle), tack on the material used to widen the rim. Using a dial indicator (as a run out gauge), we will then be able to weld the outer portion of the rim back on....and hopefully be close to true. Any ideas or comments would be GREATLY appreciated before we get to the welding part Smile

back to work on the wheels....

We drilled and sliced the wheels apart...

We will slice a section of this pipe for each wheel, to slide the two wheel ends into. Then, we will weld them up, to make a 10.5" wheel.

I believe these are about done....not sure if we'll benefit, but the wheels are 2" wider than the others....

The new wheels and tires held air and rolled, so I guess they work....

...I believe we can do the next set a little better, but these turned out OK.
